The Captain Contest

Review

The Captain Contest

written by Matt Christopher, illustrated by Daniel Vasconcellos

Dewey London and Bundy Neel are best friends and they love to play soccer. So naturally when they hear that there's a new summer soccer league forming, they both sign up. On the first day, the coach tells them about a contest to come up with a logo to be used on the team shirts. And the bonus is, the winner of the contest gets to be the team captain!  Bundy wants to be captain and he'd be good at it, but he has never had any talent for drawing. Dewey is a good artist and knows he could make a terrific logo, but he doesn't want to be captain --- in fact the idea of being the team leader makes his stomach do flip-flops. What will Dewey do --- enter the contest himself or hope that Bundy can draw something that's good enough to win?
