Alex Ryan, Stop That!

Review

Alex Ryan, Stop That!

Although another school year is finally coming to an end, seventh-grader Alex Ryan still has pranks to pull and a lot of humorous jokes to tell. He attracts other people with his humor, but never seems to please his father. His dad then attends a meeting about a seventh-grade outdoor education trip and volunteers as one of the chaperones. Alex knows that things are going to be bad because his dad is also a jester, and the laughingstock of his funny stories is often Alex.

Ironically, Alex isn't prepared for a comment that embarrasses him in front of pretty and outgoing Marcia Faitak and the rest of his classmates. When Marcia tries to console him, he makes an inappropriate remark. Marcia is crestfallen, and she stops being friends with him. Alex tries to make up for the remark, as he fails to understand what sparked it, but he isn't successful. So he then devises a plan to be excluded from the field trip.

A few weeks later, the field trip begins. When the seventh graders and parents arrive in the Colorado Mountains, everything is going fine. But then, when one of Alex's pranks results in Marcia getting injured, he starts to have second thoughts about his actions. Will Ryan stop pulling pranks and telling hurtful jokes, or will he continue?

I liked this book because it reminded me that telling jokes and playing pranks on people can be dangerous sometimes. I would never have done what Alex did because I think it's mean when people pull pranks on others. What would you have done? If you like reading stories about heroism, read this book to find out what happens to Alex and Marcia!
