Kidsreads.com Newsletter September 2012
Attention….Open Your Books!
Autumn has arrived. School is in full swing, leaves are starting to fall, and I’m sure you have all started getting ready for Halloween! It’s not summer anymore, but now is the time of year to make new friends and settle into new class schedules.

For us at Kidsreads.com, we feel like we are back to school too, and we have someone new in our “class”: Liz Kossnar, who joined us on September 10th as the new Content Coordinator for both Kidsreads.com and, one of the other sites in TheBookReportNetwork.com, Teenreads.com. You can get to know Liz a bit more here; she LOVED reading when she was growing up.

With a new year, anything is possible! This sentiment is SO TRUE, and I can’t help but think about an inspiring book I just read that shows what can happen during just one school year. In Erin Fry’s LOSING IT, an eighth grader, Bennett, witnesses his dad’s stroke and is confronted with what may happen if you don’t take care of your health. Both he and his dad are overweight, but Bennett decides to take charge of his future while living at the house of his health-conscious aunt and uncle. During the school year, he transforms into a cross-country star --- but not without plenty of trials and tribulations. I know a book is good when I find myself thinking about the main character after I close it; I still wonder what Bennett is up to!

Next up, don’t miss your chance to win SPLENDORS AND GLOOMS by Newbery Award winner Laura Amy Schlitz. To celebrate its release, we are giving 15 readers the chance to win a copy of the book, which follows the disappearance of a wealthy doctor’s only daughter. Puppeteer Grisini is suspected, along with his assistants, Lizzie Rose and Parsefall. Together, the assistants discover Grisini’s criminal past and wake up to his evil intentions. Enter to win by Monday, October 15th at noon ET.

Eleven years after his much beloved Amelia Rules! series began, artist and writer Jimmy Gownley is releasing the very last Amelia Louise McBride adventure, HER PERMANENT RECORD, where the 11-year-old heroine boards a bus to go off in search of her missing Aunt Tanner, who has been scandalized by an ex-boyfriend’s tell-all book. In this interview, Gownley reveals the series’ humble beginnings, how Amelia matured throughout the years, and how he knew when it was time to let go.

Tim Green returns with another book that scores! UNSTOPPABLE is about Harrison, a boy stuck at a foster home with no hope of fulfilling his dream of becoming an NFL player. That is, until he is brought into a new home with kind, loving parents --- his new dad is even a football coach! But Harrison’s good luck can’t last forever…

Lunch Lady is BACK in LUNCH LADY AND THE PICTURE DAY PERIL, the eighth book in Jarrett J. Krosoczka’s popular series. It’s picture day at Thompson Brook, but the students are plagued by a freak acne epidemic. More than that, Lunch Lady suspects the photographer may have an underhanded plan to break into the high world of fashion that puts the students in danger. Will Lunch Lady be able to storm the runway and stop the vogue rogue without blowing her cover?

You’re in luck! We’re continuing our Infinity Ring series feature for another month. This time-travel adventure, told in seven books and seven original online episodes at www.infinityring.com, will appeal to fans of The 39 Clues. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the first book in the series, A MUTINY IN TIME, where best friends Dak Smyth and Sera Froste discover the key to time travel --- the Infinity Ring --- and are suddenly swept up in ancient wars and secret societies. James Dashner kicks off the series and then opens the door for Carrie Ryan to continue the action in DIVIDE AND CONQUER, which releases on November 6th.

The Thea Sisters travel to India to help their friend Ashvin, who has been bringing the monkeys that live in the big city back to their natural jungle environment. But the monkeys have suddenly started stealing jewels! Someone must be behind this terrible theft. Can the Thea Sisters solve the mystery?
