Maurice Sendak

Maurice Sendak received the Caldecott Medal for WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE. Best known for his children's classics, including IN THE NIGHT KITCHEN, CHICKEN SOUP WITH RICE, ALLIGATORS ALL AROUND, and the LITTLE BEAR book, he received the Hans Christian Andersen Medal, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, the National Medal of Arts, and the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.

Sendak died in Connecticut on May 8, 2012 following a stroke. He was 83. His final book, MY BROTHER'S BOOK, is scheduled to be released in February 2013.
